Please join us in congratulating doctoral candidate Monica Arkin on receiving the Marge Scanlin Outstanding Student Research Award.

Marge Scanlin was a driving force behind many of the research efforts of the American Camp Association. Upon her retirement, this award was established as an ongoing tribute to recognize Marge’s contributions by supporting emerging scholars interested in research related to camp. Selection is based on the quality of the abstract, as well as the overall contributions the student and the research project has made to the camp movement.

The American Camp Association awarded Monica for her exemplary project that designed the Camp Counselor Burnout Scale, which is a self-report questionnaire measuring burnout among camp counselors at overnight camps. Monica’s masters thesis and dissertation at the University of Massachusetts Boston has expanded the field to understand the ways in which we can measure and support camp counselor burnout. Thank you Monica for all your hard work in supporting the American Camp Association and camp counselors across the nation.
